I'm Not Dead...I Hope

So it's been a while....a really long while actually.

I've been exhausted. More than usual which is kind of amazing. Something hasn't been right for the last month. My blood pressure in the doctor's office today was 90/60 which sounds great.....if I rode a bike everyday. Alas, it's been probably 10 years since I've been on a bike and I'm usually closer to 125/85. So, the doctor has ordered some blood tests for tomorrow morning. We'll see.

Our friend, Robin, was in town from Arizona this weekend. It was great to see him. I really enjoyed my time when I could break away from the books and naps. Come back soon!

Kimble got a new scratch post and has gone hog wild. Glad she was apparently restraining on the couch. She also got a harness/leash so we can go outside (yes, pathetic). She really, REALLY hates it. The first time I put it on her she froze, then proceeded to walk backwards, then sideways, and finally running into the wall and falling over on her side. My next mission is to get video of the drunken cat. I was laughing for days.

Edit-

Test results were all normal. Back to square one. I'm off for a nap.

Christmas From Hell

It really doesn't matter what it says. All you really need to know is this is about 1/4 of the information I need to know. Here's to three more days of studying and different colored markers!!

I'm REALLY Boring

So I haven't blogged in a while because my life has been utterly boring. I'm gearing up for a pharm test on Friday so I've been hitting the computer and books hard. So relaying anything interesting about studying 12+ hours a day is impossible. I'll be taking the Monday exam for sure. We've got 5 hours of review schedule this weekend, so it isn't looking promising.

I did take a short break to have dinner with a group of med school friends tonight. It was nice to relax and have some great homemade food. It's sad that we'll all be going our separate ways in a few months.

I did have something pretty funny happen today. I was driving down a main road near school on my way over to my friend's house tonight. It was near the fitness center on campus and there were multiple people out jogging. I'm driving along when I notice the car going the opposite direction is slowly coming across the centerline into my lane. I slow down. The guy is blatantly turned looking at the butt of a female jogger. I lay on my horn and he quickly swerved, nearly avoiding me. I hope it was worth it!

Back to studying! We have our basic science test tomorrow that covers two years of material. Wonderful. Luckily it doesn't count for anything except a blow to my ego.

Planes, Trains, and Automobiles

Goodbye SkyBus!

The airline that flew me from Kansas City to Columbus for cheap, cheap, cheap canceled the rest of their flights and is shutting down. I really didn't enjoy the seven children with portable DVD players without headphones within two rows of me on multiple flights. But sitting next to two lesbians on one side sharing their coming-out-of-the-closet stories and a clearly Mennonite women on the other side of me within close ear shot made for an interesting ride. I guess it's back to the boring old business men on standard airlines. When they talk about their jobs, I have no reference to what a consultant for an investment firm actually does so I just nod my head nicely and look entertained.

Nancy Grace

Oh man, Nancy Grace on her appropriately named television
show said, "Yes, I hate when that happens when I mix my methamphetamine formula in the bottle instead of the baby formula." Classic. Only 98% of me hates her now after that comment. At least that show I didn't wish death on her.

Diners, Drive-ins, and Dives

It's a show on the Food Network that my Dad got me interested in. He saw a feature of a 39th Street Mama's in Kansas City and wanted to try out the food when they were in town. I popped on the website and they're asking for suggestions from the audience about places they should feature. I sent off an email suggesting the Canteen Lunch in the Alley in Ottumwa, Iowa.

The Canteen has the greatest loose meat sandwiches EVER. When we're back in town, I almost always stop into grab one. It's like walking back into the 1940's. They have bar-style seating for 17 around the vat of cooking meat in the center. I always order a cheese ketchup, while Anthony gets a cheese everything.

I think it's got a great history, too. Presidential candidates always stop in there during the Iowa caucus time. Tom Arnold, who was married to Roseanne Barr, is originally from Ottumwa. The restaurant from Roseanne is actually modeled after the Canteen. A few years ago, the downtown was undergoing some revitalization. A new parking garage was slated to be built where the Canteen sat. They were going to have to build a new building, which had the community up in arms. They reached a compromise. The Canteen would stay and the parking garage would be built around it as you can see from the picture. It's a strange site, but I'm glad they left it intact.

So who knows, you might see the me and the Canteen on the next episode with Guy!

Big Brother Google

I usually get my news from the main headlines on foxnews.com and cnn.com. I only really read the interesting stories. It's surprising I keep up as much as I do.

Tonight, I read an article about a couple that is suing Google for a violation of privacy because they allegedly took a picture from the private driveway of their home. Apparently, Google now has cars that drive around taking street-level pictures of streets. This includes houses, stores, and cows on the sides of highways. Really? I had to see this for myself. I popped on google and Kansas City is one of the current cities with the feature. They currently haven't made it as south as my house, but it's only a matter of time. They're starting to record the main roads around my neighborhood. But, you can see my school and other friends' houses. This creeps me out. It's too Big Brother for me. Maybe tomorrow's Google logo will have two camera lens as the O's.

Wordless Wednesday: "Faith" - Ottumwa, Iowa

April Fool's?

While driving home in the middle rush hour, I passed a sign announcing, "Aggressive Driving Enforcement, 4/1-4/10". I figured it must have been an April Fool's joke because I proceeded to sit at a dead stop for the next 5 minutes in front of it. I guess the enforcement is working.
